I found an interesting piece written by Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi for online news site, Huffington Post. I couldn’t agree more with what he had conveyed about the current invasion into Gaza and the constant Israeli aggression towards the Palestinians. It is worth the read.

A brief history on Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi (Mustafa Kamil Mustafa Barghuthi), he’s a physician and political activist; advocate for the development of Palestinian civil society and grassroots democracy; international spokesman for the Palestinian NGO sector, and organizer of international solidarity presence in the OPT. In 1979, Barghouti founded the Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees, a non-governmental organization which provides health care and related services in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Dr. Barghouthi also holds the position of Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative. He writes extensively for a local and international audience on civil society, democracy issues and the political situation in Palestine, and on health development policy for Palestinians living under occupation.

Barghouti is a former secular candidate for President of Palestine and has been a strong advocate of non-violent responses to Israeli occupation. Barghouti is thought by many to be a leading contender in the next Palestinian presidential election. Perspectives have also been solicited from various national leaders and incumbent Knesset leaders in Israel.

The bloodiest single day in Palestine since the War of 1967 is far from over following on Israel’s promised that this is ‘only the beginning’ of their campaign of state terror. At least 290 people have been murdered thus far, but the body count continues to rise at a dramatic pace as more mutilated bodies are pulled from the rubble, previous victims succumb to their wounds and new casualties are created by the minute.

What has and is occurring is nothing short of a war crime, yet the Israeli public relations machine is in full-swing, churning out lies by the minute.

Once and for all it is time to expose the myths that they have created.

—————————————————————————————————————–

1. Israelis have claimed to have ended the occupation of the Gaza Strip in 2005.

While Israel has indeed removed the settlements from the tiny coastal Strip, they have in no way ended the occupation. They remained in control of the borders, the airspace and the waterways of Gaza, and have carried out frequent raids and targeted assassinations since the disengagement.

Furthermore, since 2006 Israel has imposed a comprehensive siege on the Strip. For over two years, Gazans have lived on the edge of starvation and without the most basic necessities of human life, such as cooking or heating oil and basic medications. This siege has already caused a humanitarian catastrophe which has only been exacerbated by the dramatic increase in Israeli military aggression.

Peace, Propaganda and the Promised Land

Posted in ALL, ALL ABOUT HOPE, Current Events/General Miscellaneous, Palestine, Political Mambo Jambos by Truth Seeker on December 28, 2008

Assalamu’Alaykum,

I have posted this awhile back but in light of what is going on in the Middle East from the last couple of days, I decided that it would be appropriate for me to post it back on top of the page.

It hurts to see our Muslim brethren suffering under such atrocities.  It’s a never-ending pain. I ask that you all make du’as for our Palestinian people. They have suffered so much and the conditions they live under is unfathomable. Always be grateful for what you have and think of those who would give anything to be in the comfortableness that you’re in.

As we approach a new year in the Islamic calendar tomorrow as well as a brand new 2009, reflect on life, make a change and do something worthy.  Donate what you can and make a difference in someone’s life. Life indeed is too short to contemplate so make a positive change in anyway you can. Whether it’d be improving in your deen and sunnahs, giving more, volunteering, or just by any means of upgrading your life in the best possible way.

There are several Palestinian Organizations that work tirelessly in providing the basic necessities such as food, shelter, clothings, education and any form of economic living for those living under such hardship conditions. I’ll list them all and please visit their sites and do whatever you can to help. A single dollar goes a long way. So please help your Muslim brothers and sisters in pain out.

Also check out the video below and learn of the truth!

May Allah continue to forgive and guide our ummah. May He provide sustenance, provision and a place in Jannah for the sufferers, Ameen!

JazakAllahu Khayran.

Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land provides a striking comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the Middle East, zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This pivotal documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests of American political elites–oil, and a need to have a secure military base in the region, among others–work in combination with Israeli public relations strategies to exercise a powerful influence over how news from the region is reported. Through the voices of scholars, media critics, peace activists, religious figures, and Middle East experts, Peace, Propaganda & the Promised Land carefully analyzes and explains how–through the use of language, framing and context–the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza remains hidden in the news media, and Israeli colonization of the occupied terrorities appears to be a defensive move rather than an offensive one. The documentary also explores the ways that U.S. journalists, for reasons ranging from intimidation to a lack of thorough investigation, have become complicit in carrying out Israel’s PR campaign. At its core, the documentary raises questions about the ethics and role of journalism, and the relationship between media and politics.

Question: What Are the Virtues of the Month of Muharram? Could you also furnish me with some details concerning the virtues of observing voluntary fasting during Muharram?

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Dear questioner, thanks for your interesting question, and we earnestly implore Allah to guide us to the best way through which we can please Him.

A Muslim is to be keen to get closer to Allah and draw nearer to Him all the time. Such keenness gains more weight and significance during blessed occasions and times. One of these occasions in which a Muslim should exert more effort and show more keenness is the month of Muharram.

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.

Islamic Financing: Collateral Security, Etc

Posted in ALL, Islamic Finance by Truth Seeker on December 14, 2008

Collateral Security, Etc

If we were to embark on an undertaking involving the lending of money to those who need it within Islamic guidelines, would it be acceptable to give loans to Muslims on easier terms than those given to non-Muslims? Is it acceptable to ask for securities only in articles, which appreciate in value? In the event of default, the security is auctioned or sold. Suppose that it fetches more than the original sum of the loan, how do we treat the balance? Is it acceptable to add it to the capital to allow more money to be lent? Or can it be taken as profit?

As the lender, you may make your own conditions for lending any amount of money to any person. You may if you so wish give some of your borrower easier terms. There is no obligation on you to lend your money except on terms that are acceptable to you. The distinction between borrowers may be made on the basis of treating each case on its merits. If you feel that the borrower will settle the debt without difficulty, you may extend easy terms, while if you think that the case is not particularly promising, you may ask for adequate security.

Islamic Financing: Borrowing Money on Interest

Borrowing Money on Interest

A person who was in great need to sort out some unexpected problems borrowed money on interest from a non-Muslim colleague. He was unable to arrange an interest-free loan. Is his action permissible?

The rule, which applies to loans, in general is that “any loan which makes a gain for the lender is usurious.” The lender should provide the loan free of charge, with the intention of helping someone else through a difficulty. The reward he gets is that granted by God, who definitely gives a rich reward for such a kind action. Islam strongly prohibits usurious loans, making it clear that both lender and borrower are disobedient to God. Indeed, the prohibition of usury is one of the strictest in Islamic law. The Prophet, peace be upon him, says: “God curses the person who devours usury, the one who pays it, the one who writes the contract between lender and borrower, and the two witnesses to the contract.”

Ayat-ul-Kursi (Audio)

A Verse With Attributes Of Allah & Principles Of Islam

In the name of God, the Merciful, the Beneficent.

“Allah: there is no deity save Him, the Ever-Living, the Eternal Master of all: Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth. Who is there that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows all that lies open before men and all that is hidden from them, whereas they cannot attain to anything of His knowledge save such as He wills. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of both does not weary Him. He is the Most High, the Most Great.”

[the Cow, "Al-Baqarah" 2:256] Commentary by Sayyid Qutb — Translated & Edited by Adil Salahi

Every attribute of Allah contained in this verse outlines a basic principle of the clear Islamic concept of Allah and represents a cornerstone of the clear Islamic constitution.
