Modesty And Arrogance

Modesty is one of the most essential concepts of which we are repeatedly reminded in the Qur’an. Being modest and humble are signs of faith, while arrogance is a characteristic peculiar to disbelief.

If modesty is assumed to be akin to faith, and arrogance to disbelief, it is because faith leads man to understanding and wisdom, while disbelief hinders him from acquiring these virtues. Building a consciousness of Allah through wisdom, the individual who has faith in his heart never dares to conduct himself in an arrogant way. He readily concedes that Allah has control over everything and he, as a man, is only a servant being endowed with many favors. A man of understanding sees the power of Allah in everything and realizes his own weaknesses; Man is weak; he feels hungry, he is prone to diseases, suffers pain. He can never prevent himself from growing older. He did not create himself and likewise he cannot avoid death. With a body prone to weaknesses, he is destined to live for a certain period of time, then he is laid in his grave. Ultimately he will turn to his Creator. He has no reason whatsoever to display arrogance. Even if he thinks he has, the fact remains that everything he is, or has, is the gift of Allah. It is his duty to be grateful rather than display arrogance.

**Bizarre enough there is instrumental music in the video. I now realized it after I posted it. The clip itself is very powerful and amazing but I hope you ignore the music part by turning down the volume. That’s what I’ve done.

Abdullaah bin ‘Amr reported that the Messenger of Allaah said: “A man will be brought along to the balances on the Day of Resurrection, and there will be brought out for him ninety nine scrolls, every scroll of them stretching when unrolled) as far as an eye can reach, in which are written his sins and his guilty acts, and they will be put in one pan of the Balances. Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger as saying: “There is none whose deeds alone can secure salvation for him.” They said: “Allah’s Messenger, not even you?” Thereupon he said: “Not even I, but that, the Mercy of Allah should take hold of me.” [Muslim :: Book 39 : Hadith 6763]

Allah says in the Qur’an: “I have only created jinns and humans to worship Me. I do not need from them to provide for Me, and I do not need from them to feed Me. Allah is surely the One Who gives providence, and He is the Mighty and Strong.” [Surah adh-Dhariyat, 51:56-58]

Narrated Mujahid: ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar said, “Allah’s Apostle took hold of my shoulder and said, ‘Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler.” The sub-narrator added: Ibn ‘Umar used to say, “If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death.” [Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 425]

Explanation: The similitude of ‘Living in this world as a wayfarer’ is like that of a traveller in this world who undertakes a journey and then stops to rest under the shade of a tree in a particular place. So the traveller ties his mount, lays down his luggage and retires for a moment under the shade in the midday heat, reclining against the tree. Then after having rested a while, he gathers his belongings, unties his mount and resumes his journey moving away from the temporary resting place, where he had sheltered for a short time. Such is the similitude of man in this world, who resides in this temporary abode of the world for a short time, and then he must thereafter continue his journey towards his real destination, which is the hereafter. Allah says in the Qur’an: “O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, He surely will receive an easy reckoning, And will return to his family in joy! But whosoever is given his Record behind his back, He will invoke (his) destruction, And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning.” [Surah al-Inshiqaq, 84:6-12]

Abu Hurairah (radiAllahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet said: “Whoever spends two things in the way of Allah will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be addressed, ‘O slave of Allah, here is prosperity!’ So whoever was among the people who used to offer their prayers will be called from the gate of the prayer; and whoever was among the people who used to participate in jihad will be called from the gates of jihad; and whoever was among those who used to observe fasts will be called from the gate of ar-Rayyaan; and whoever was among those who used to give in charity will be called from the gate of charity.” Abu Bakr said, ‘Let my parents be sacrificed for you, Oh Allah’s Apostle! No distress or need will befall him who will be called from those gates Will there by anyone who will be called from these gates?” The Prophet replied, “Yes. And I hope you will be one of them.” [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Allah says in the Qur’an: “For those who have done good is the best (reward, i.e. Paradise) and even more (i.e. having the honour of glancing at the Countenance of Allah) Neither darkness nor dust nor any humiliating disgrace shall cover their faces. They are the dwellers of Paradise, they will abide therein forever.” [Surah Yunus, 10:26]

Abu Hazim narrated it on the authority of Ibn Sa’d that the Messenger of Allah said: Seventy thousand persons or seven hundred thousand persons (Abu Hazim does not remember the exact number) would enter Paradise holding and supporting one another, and the first among them would not enter till the last among them would enter (therein) ; (they would enter simultaneously) and their faces would be bright like the full moon. [Muslim :: Book 1 : Hadith 424]

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, “Allah will say (on the Day of Resurrection), ‘O Adam.’ Adam will reply, ‘Labbaik wa Sa’daik’, and all the good is in Your Hand.’ Allah will say: ‘Bring out the people of the fire.’ Adam will say: ‘O Allah! How many are the people of the Fire?’ Allah will reply: ‘From every one thousand, take out nine-hundred-and ninety-nine.’ At that time children will become hoary headed, every pregnant female will have a miscarriage, and one will see mankind as drunken, yet they will not be drunken, but dreadful will be the Wrath of Allah.” The companions of the Prophet asked, “O Allah’s Apostle! Who is that (excepted) one?” He said, “Rejoice with glad tidings; one person will be from you and one-thousand will be from Gog and Magog.” The Prophet further said, “By Him in Whose Hands my life is, hope that you will be one-fourth of the people of Paradise.” We shouted, “Allahu Akbar!” He added, “I hope that you will be one-third of the people of Paradise.” We shouted, “Allahu Akbar!” He said, “I hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise.” We shouted, “Allahu Akbar!” He further said, “You (Muslims) (compared with non Muslims) are like a black hair in the skin of a white ox or like a white hair in the skin of a black ox (i.e. your number is very small as compared with theirs).” [Bukhari :: Book 4 :: Volume 55 :: Hadith 567]

To My Fellow Muslims: GO AND GET YOUR VOTE ON!!!

Posted in ALL, ALL ABOUT HOPE, Current Events/General Miscellaneous, Political Mambo Jambos by Truth Seeker on October 1, 2008

Assalamu’Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh,

This goes to my North American Muslim brothers and sisters. If you are of the legal age limit, PLEASE VOTE!!!!!

I cannot stress this enough. Vote for the upcoming Canadian and American elections, please. The reason for my pleading is because we Muslims have a powerful say just as much as everyone else. Just maybe WE can break a tie if we all decide to head out to the ballot booth. MAKE A CHANGE!!!!

I know what some Muslims are thinking; why should I vote for any of these candidates who don’t necessarily have their best interest at heart in us? Keep in mind this though; by being a Canadian and/or American citizen, we live here too. The healthcare, economy, education, environment, war, immigration, globalization, human rights, injustice, our civil rights and our freedom of religion, all of these issues affects us all. We are living and raising a generation here so how could our voices and votes not be heard? Remember, VOTE IS POWER!!!!!

AMERICA

This is as historic as it can get. If you have not registered to vote yet, click on the VOTE FOR CHANGE or ROCK THE VOTE link to get all the dates and deadlines of the last day of registration in your respective state. The deadline in some states is as early as this Saturday, October 4th!!! You don’t have much time left as it is October 1st already but please hurry up and do what

you can to get your registration form in the mail in time for the November 4th election. To cast your vote early, you can apply for an

absentee ballot.

MUSLIM AMERICAN SOCIETY: http://www.masvip.org/

CANADA

We have our 40th General Election coming up on the 14th of October,

insha’Allah.

It is important to get your voting card ready. If you do not have one or need to register for one, you may click on the Elections Canada link to find all the contact information. You may also view the Frequently Asked Questions to find out more about this election. You can also register at your local polling station on Election Day. You will need to bring a form of ID and proof of address (Driver’s License is sufficient).

I would strongly advise Muslims all around the world, especially those in Europe and North America, to partake in the election process of their respective countries. We have a lot of challenges that we are facing as citizens of our birth and adoptive nations. OUR rights and freedom are being taken away from us in the name of “the patriot act”. Get informed, attend rallies, register to vote, stand for your rights and make your voices BE HEARD!

Here’s a great article by CAIR on Why Muslims should vote

By making a choice, you are participating in Democracy!
